Hi everyone,
My name is Thuong Ledinh, a practicing physician in NJ, and I have the privilege of representing a group of 48 physicians present here today to honor our late master Dr Le thanh Minh Chau, former President of Hue University where we all graduated from. Also at one time in a sad period of the Vietnam war, where the city of Hue was invaded by the North Vietnamese and thousands of civilians were slaughtered, disrupting the activities of Hue Medical School, Dr Chau Le had to assume the duties of the Dean of our Medical School as well.
Even after the fall of Saigon, many graduates from Hue Medical School came to the US without the necessary supporting documents, they were allowed to sit in the qualifying exams in order to resume their practice, thanks to the certifying of Dr. Chau Le as recognized by the AMA.
But the most memorable moments we all had with him were his presence in most of our reunions, with his smile and friendly attitude as a bon papa to all of us in our life away from the homeland.
With the way he has lived his life serving his country as well as the souvenirs he left behind, I'm sure he is in God's hands by now.
On a more personal note, Dr Chau Le was my Godfather and uncle-in-law as he married my auntie Trai Le, another great scholar.
But the most grateful to him was when I came to the US and decided to tell my story as a POW after the fall of Saigon with a heavy heart for leaving the homeland, Dr Chau Le helped correct my English before editing my book.
Since we both attended the same high school at Providence Institute in Hue, even more than a decade apart, he knew my English was not as good as my French then.
My dear Godfather and uncle, I will never forget you. Your life was an example for us all.
On behalf of all my colleagues from Hue Medical School, may I say : Dr Chau Le, we all love you and will never forget your legacy.
